Apprenticeship involves training in specific occupations that require a wide range of skills and knowledge.  On-the- Job Training (OJT) and related classroom instruction are the components of an apprenticeship.  OJT experience is given under the supervision of the employer to provide structured and formalized training.  Apprentices earn a wage while they learn a career.  The apprenticeship is registered with the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.  Virtually all apprenticeships require courses and OJT beyond high school.  Placement into a n apprenticeship program is based on the student's Student Education Occupation Plan (SEOP).  Guidance counselors access apprenticeship opportunities through regional School-to-Careers coordinators, who in turn coordinate and register the apprenticeship.
