The technology, life, and careers career and technical education core curriculum is a course designed to help students explore life’s work.  Core concepts are planned, integrated, and taught through interactive, hands-on activities using current technology in a laboratory environment.  Students are involved in discovering self viewing future life options within the context of work and family settings, developing the positive relationships required for communication and teamwork, and identifying the skills required for life’s roles.  Students are expected to develop skills and accept responsibility for decision making, planning, and preparing for life’s work.  CTE Introduction is a coordinated exploratory course that includes three cluster areas of technology/ agriculture, business/marketing, and family and consumer sciences/health science.  This course is required for all students by the Utah State Board of Education.  (One-year course)

This course provides students with advanced Internet concepts that directly relate to using Internet in business.  The uses, advantages, and disadvantages of commercial web page creation programs and templates, and JavaScript vs. HTML will be included.  Emphasis will be placed on logical yet artistic web page planning and design as students use image composers, photo programs, CUSee ME, animated GIF images, scanners, sound and video images.   Posting pages to the Web, server setup, and mail server use will also be covered.  Students will demonstrate a knowledge of copyright laws, ethics, and privacy on the web.

In the beginning semester keyboarding course, the student will master touch operation on a computer keyboard. Correct fingering by touch and good techniques will receive primary emphasis; speed and accuracy will be given secondary emphasis. The fourth row numbers and symbols and 10-key pad will also be taught. The student will use basic word processing functions on a variety of document types.

This 7-12 grade course is designed to increase student keyboarding skill through drill practice and reinforcement of correct techniques. Students will use word processing software to create, format, and edit personal and business documents.  

 

Students who enter this course with a minimum timed-writing level competence are expected to improve keyboarding sped and accuracy by increasing between 4 to 8 words per minute with a maximum of 2 errors per minute.
